We Value Trust and Truth 2

Weekly Worship by Mrs Duzniak

Today we are going to play a game, ‘two truths and a lie’. One person needs to say 3 pieces of information about themselves – 2 of these pieces of information must be true and one must be a lie. Your partner (or the rest of the class) need to guess which one is the lie! Play this a few times as a class.

Was it easier to tell the truth or was it easier to lie?

It is much easier to tell the truth, and yet we often tell lies….why do we do this? Have a discussion as a class about some of the reasons why we might tell lies.

Here are some reasons why we tell lies:

1. Worried about getting into trouble
2. To make someone feel happy
3. To save face
4. To avoid disappointing someone
5. To pretend/fit in with our friends

But would it actually be easier to tell the truth? Often we think that telling a lie is easier but then when people find out, it can be very painful to rebuild trust again. It is better to tell the truth!

The Bible says,

We will speak the truth with love. We will grow up in every way to be like Christ Ephesians 4:15

Reflection – as you listen to this piece of music here are some questions:

1. How can I rebuild trust with people I may have lied to
2. What does it mean to ‘speak the truth with love’

If you do not want to think about the questions, just use this time to breathe and relax at the start of a busy day.

Prayer
Dear Lord, even though telling the truth should be easier than telling a lie, I know that I sometimes choose to lie. Please give me the courage to speak the truth in every situation. Amen
