We Value Ourselves

Weekly Worship from Chaplain Josh

This week, we are reflecting on our ALIVE Value of ‘We Value Ourselves.’

There are so many messages in our world that can often cause us to forget or struggle with our self-worth. Things people say or things that we see, can often cause us to doubt how much we're really worth.

When we look to see who God says we are and discover the incredible worth that He has created us with, we are reminded of some amazing things.

Can you think of any amazing things that God says about how he created us?

The Bible provides us with numerous reminders of our worth in God's eyes. One of the most reaffirming scriptures is found in Psalm 139:13-14, which says,

For you created my inmost being; you knit me together in my mother’s womb. I praise you because I am fearfully and wonderfully made; your works are wonderful, I know that full well.

This verse highlights the care and intentionality God put into creating each of us. We are not mere products of chance; we are wonderfully made with purpose and love. Each one of you is purposefully created, wonderfully, and with immeasurable value.

Take a moment to look at the ideas below that offer us ways to remind ourselves of our worth. Talk about these with the people around you.

  1. Daily Affirmation: Start each day by reminding yourself that you are valued by God. Use scriptural affirmations like "I am fearfully and wonderfully made" or "I am loved by God, who sees my worth."
  2. Prayer and Reflection: Spend time in prayer, asking God to reveal to you areas where you might be struggling with in self-worth and value. Reflect on how His love and acceptance can fill those voids.
  3. Community Support: Surround yourself with a community of people who uplift and remind you of your incredible worth. Share your struggles with self-worth with trusted friends or mentors who can encourage you with biblical truths.
  4. Service to Others: Engage in acts of service that reflect the love of Christ. By helping others, you not only demonstrate your worth but also affirm the worth of those around you.

Let’s pray,

Heavenly Father, thank You for creating us in Your image and for loving us unconditionally. Help us to see ourselves through Your eyes and to understand our worth. May we find our identity rooted in Your love and not in the fleeting opinions of the world. Guide us as we seek to uplift one another and reflect Your love in our lives. In Jesus' name, we pray. Amen.
