Lent 5 2025

An image of text that says "Tender Hearts, Open Hands: A Lent Devotional on Compassion".

Weekly Worship from Dylan, one of our Community Chaplains.

For the final week of our Lent reflections, Dylan shares his thoughts and challenges us to show compassion in our daily lives.

Through Lent, we have been thinking about making small changes in the way we look out for our community. We have looked at how we can show compassion, how we can support charities, and Jesus’ example of loving one another.

We want all of us to reflect on how we live our lives, with compassion, for the sake of others.

So, for our final week, we want to challenge you to take action – to show compassion to others.

In James 1:22, the bible challenges us not to just hear what we should do but to listen and act on what it says. It uses the word ‘doers.’ We need to be ‘doers.’

How can you be a ‘doer’? Here are some ideas:

  • Show love and respect to each other, every day. To each other and staff!
  • Fundraising or supporting local charities
  • Random acts of kindness
  • Helping family or friends

If you share or send your acts of compassion to us (Community Chaplains or Chaplain Josh), we will give you a prize! Use the list above to inspire your acts of compassion.

And, as part of our Lent activities, you are all invited to the Charity Easter Egg Raffle, next Thursday lunchtime (03/04/25)! You can buy tickets during Monday-Wednesday lunchtimes, with the prize draw on Thursday (50p a ticket). There’s chocolate to be won!

Let’s finish with a prayer,

Dear Lord,

We pray that in this final week of Lent, we can show compassion and kindness to others.

Show us your love and kindness, so we can reflect this to all those around us.

Be with us as we celebrate Easter and have a break from school. Keep us safe and fill us with joy as we remember how great the story of Easter is.

Amen
