This week, I want to look at the story of an incredible woman who pursued justice, rallied for change and brought light to many dark places. My hope is that her story and faith in God will inspire you to pursue justice and courageously change this world.

This is the story of Harriet Tubman. Watch a short summary of her life here:

In all the stories of those who have made a difference in our world, you will see a display of courage. Harriet had courage to act justly and take risk for what she believed in. However, her courage didn’t just come from belief in herself, but her courage came from faith. Have a read of this quote, where she reflects on all she did:

Twasn't me, 'twas the Lord! I always told Him, 'I trust to you. I don't know where to go or what to do, but I expect You to lead me,' an' He always did.

Harriet recognised that God was with her, working through her and leading her. This gave her courage. If we want to seek justice in our world, we need courage for ourselves. Where can we find that courage? We can find it in our faith.

Faith gives us courage because faith fills us with hope, purpose & knowledge that God is standing with us. Isaiah 41:10 tells us that God says ‘So do not fear, for I am with you; do not be dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you and help you.’ When we trust that promise and put our faith in it, we can find the courage we need – just like Harriet.

This week, reflect on how you can pursue justice & respect with courage. Ask yourself, ‘Where do I need to be bold and take a step of faith?’ Ask God, ‘Where can I pursue justice in my world? Where do you need me to act?’

I learned that courage was not the absence of fear, but the triumph over it. The brave man is not he who does not feel afraid, but he who conquers that fear.

Let’s Pray:

Father God, fill me with courage. Show me that you stand with me and reassure me to take steps of faith. I ask that your great power and love gives me the strength to pursue justice for those who need it. Show me where love and hope and faith are needed and use me to bring them to those places. Amen.
