DT Key Stage 3
Vision
In Design Technology we want all students to learn a wide range of practical skills from working with wood, fabric, plastic, ICT and food. They will learn the ability to problem-solve independently. Students will have an awareness of how design impacts the environment and the cultures we live in. They will learn how to design for a purpose and use these skills in real life.
Curriculum Overview
Sequencing, Setting and Support
We teach KS3 on a carousel of 5 subject areas to give students a taste of each before deciding on a GCSE. Projects build on the previous year of learning.
We teach KS3 in mixed ability groups. Projects are created on a three-level basis to stretch, challenge and differentiate.
At KS3 there are three level challenge in general. More personalised differentiation is provided when required according to passports.

Homework and how Parents/Carers Support Learning
All homework is set on Bromcom which is an app and website available to students and parents/carers. Further information is available on our Homework page.
These are the principles which underpin our homework.
KS3 students receive two homeworks per project rotation - one of which is an assessed piece of work.
At all key stages it is important to support students to meet deadlines. This is a skill that is required for GCSE to prevent being overworked and overwhelmed and demonstrates they are able to manage their time appropriately.
