Sequencing, Setting and Support

Delivered through Kangaroo SOW. The curriculum builds upon the Mathematics from KS2 and focusses on key concepts of fluency, problem-solving and reasoning. Topics are sequenced in a way that they become building blocks for topics studied later in the year. Each year topics are revisited in greater depth and expanded upon, and new topics are introduced.

In Key Stage 3 (Years 7 to 9) students are grouped according to ability into one of 3 groups: Higher, Middle or Support. Each group follows an ambitious curriculum that is designed to meet the needs of all of our students and prepare them for GCSE study in Years 10 and 11.

Early topics consolidate key skills learnt throughout KS2 to re-enforce and support further learning. Our curriculum is fully resourced to support SEND students. Notes are provided on printed sheets that can be coloured for dyslexic learners or printed with the Open Dyslexic font. Lessons are continuously adapted to cater for the learning needs of individuals. Learning support staff work closely with teachers and support classes that are small to offer specialised individual support to students.

Homework and how Parents/Carers Support Learning

All homework is set on Bromcom which is an app and website available to students and parents/carers. Further information is available on our Homework page.

These are the principles which underpin our homework.

As you are aware, completing homework and revising regularly is essential in learning and retaining mathematical skills and knowledge. To help, the school has invested in an online resource called Sparx Maths.

Your child has been issued with a Sparx Maths homework book and a student account so that they can access the website and complete the work both online and in the homework books.

Sparx Maths will automatically mark students' work. The class teacher will then consolidate the homework in class and mark the exercise books every fortnight.

Should your child not have access to the internet or computer at home, please let us know so that we can help.
