Senior Students and Year Councils
The Sixth Form relies on students to organise activities and to take responsibility for the positive atmosphere, environment and opportunities we hope characterise the Sixth Form.
The Sixth Form also believes in the importance of students having a voice on matters that concern them and being respectfully listened to.
The Sixth Form appoints a team of “Senior Students” to represent the school in a variety of functions, including speaking at open evenings etc. They also take responsibility for organising parties, social events, and the leaver’s ball, and supporting other student activities.
A major responsibility of ALL students, led by the Senior Students, is to choose and raise funds for our RAG charities through RAG Week and other special RAG Events. Every tutor group takes a part in coming up with fund-raising activities and carrying them out.
Those who wish to be considered as Senior Students should apply to their head of year in June of year 12, for interviewing and appointment in July. If this is a role you aspire to then you should be aware that one of the factors considered is the level of student’s participation in Sixth Form activities and volunteering within the school.
Please speak to the Senior Students if you have any issues that you would like support with or suggestions to make.
Each Year 12 and Year 13 tutor group also nominates a tutor group representative to help us consult with students, and get their year group involved in planning Sixth Form Activities. The Year Councils will meet each half-term with the Sixth form leadership and senior students.
Anybody with suggestions or worries should consider sharing these with their tutor group rep or a senior student.
