Lent 4

Weekly Worship from Elisia, one of our Community Chaplains.

This week, Elisia is helping us focus on the importance of charity and how we can get involved in supporting them.

Dear children, let us not love with words or speech but with actions and in truth.
1 John 3:18

So, what is charity?

“Charity is the act of helping and caring for others, especially those who are in need. It’s about showing kindness, generosity, and love, whether through giving time, resources, or support. It’s not just about donating money—it’s about using what you have to make a positive difference in someone else’s life, no matter how small the gesture may seem.”

Supporting charities gives us incredible opportunities to show compassion and look out for others in our communities. We can share our time, money and resources to support those who are less fortunate than us.

What charities do you know about in Bristol, the UK and the world? What work do they do?

I asked some friends about charities that matter to them. Take a moment to talk about the charities you know and care about.

Then, think about how you can support these charities. Some ways to help include fundraising, volunteering, or raising awareness.

I challenge you this week to find a charity that supports something you care about and figure out how you can get involved and support them!

Let's pray

Dear God,

Thank you for all the wonderful charities that support so many people across the world.

Thank you for how you have blessed us in many different ways. Challenge our hearts to share with others and give what we can.

We ask you to protect and care for those who may be struggling or in need of support from charities.

We pray this in Jesus’ name,

Amen.
