We continue to think about our ALIVE Value ‘We can Contribute.’

I want all of us to consider how we make our unique contribution to the world.

When you’re young, it can be too easy to think you can’t make a difference in this world because of your age. But you can. Each of you are gifted with skills & qualities that can inspire change in our world. There are so many stories across history where young people made a huge difference.

Can you think of any young individuals or groups who have made a difference in the world?

We find stories in the Bible that show us how God and others encouraged young people to step up and make a difference.

In the early Church, Paul reminds Timothy of his ability to make a difference with his actions…

Don't let anyone look down on you because you are young but set an example for the believers. ^{Timothy 4:12}

God also reminds Jeremiah that his age does not stop him from making a difference…

“O Sovereign Lord,” Jeremiah said, “I can’t speak for you! I’m too young!” The Lord replied, “Don’t say, ‘I’m too young,’ for you must go wherever I send you and say whatever I tell you. And don’t be afraid of the people, for I will be with you and will protect you. ^{Jeremiah 1:6-8}

You're never too young to make a difference in the world. All of you have so many great ideas of how you could make a difference in your communities and the wider world.

As he promised Jeremiah, God promises to be with you wherever you go. He is on your side as you seek to make a difference in this world.

What can you do this week to make a difference in the lives of those around you?

Let’s pray to finish,

Father God, remind us that you have gifted us with so many skills and qualities. You call on each of us to play our part in contributing to making this world a better place. Show us opportunities to serve our communities and inspire us to make a change in the world we live in.

We pray this in your name,
