Values in Practice Key Stage 4
Vision
A personal, social, health, education and careers curriculum that protects, informs and nurtures all pupils with the knowledge of the laws, skills and values to flourish in modern Britain.
Curriculum Overview
Sequencing, Setting and Support
We teach the 'relationships' topic according to the statutory guidelines, and it is taught in terms 5 and 6. This ensures that good relationships between staff and their VIP classes have been fostered in order to discuss more sensitive issues. At this stage of the year, students should feel more comfortable asking questions.
VIP classes are mixed ability and the teacher differentiates accordingly and by looking at a student’s SEND and behavioural needs, the teacher adapts the work, so it is accessible and engaging.
The VIP curriculum is shared with LSAs, Learning Support, Heads of Houses and learning mentors so that they are aware of what is taught and when and they can provide extra support to students that may benefit. Parents/ carers receive termly emails which inform them of the lessons and provides links to useful websites and resources to discuss the VIP topics with their children.

Homework and how Parents/Carers Support Learning
All homework is set on Bromcom which is an app and website available to students and parents/carers. Further information is available on our Homework page.
These are the principles which underpin our homework.
Termly online quizzes assess students’ progress, such as defining keywords and spellings of keywords.
Reading for consolidation and extension - students have opportunities to engage with websites (charities and organisations that can provide students with guidance and deepen students’ understanding) and novels that link to the topics to encourage students’ to empathise with characters who are dealing with some of the VIP topics covered.
Parents/ carers receive termly emails which inform them of the lessons and provides links to useful websites and resources to discuss the VIP topics with their children. These resources and conversations they may spark between parents/ carers and their children will support students with their homework.
