Alive Curriculum KS4
Our Key Stage 4 curriculum is designed to equip students with the skills and knowledge and Alive qualities which will allow them to make their unique contribution to the world.
At Key Stage 4, the majority of students follow courses that generally lead to nine GCSEs (or their equivalent). As with all areas of school life, teaching and learning is under-pinned by our ALIVE values and, in particular, the value we place on diversity and choice. We have also designed a KS4 curriculum offer which reflects the dynamic nature of the local and national employment market and provides students with the opportunity to develop their unique gifts and discover what form their unique contribution to the world might take.
All students take GCSEs in English (Language and Literature), Mathematics and Combined Science. As a faith school, we believe that it is important for all of our students to understand the value of faith in the world and be knowledgeable about and sensitive towards people of faiths other than their own. For this reason, GCSE Religious Education (RE) is compulsory for all students. There are also non-examined lessons in Physical Education and Values in Practice, which covers personal, social, health and economic education, careers and citizenship education. For further details of the Values in Practice curriculum, please see this overview. Students also choose three additional GCSE subjects. Parents/carers are advised of the right to withdraw their children from Religious Education in the Curriculum Policy and from Relationships and Sex Education lessons in the RSHE policy. Details of the subjects available as option choices and an overview of the structure of the KS4 curriculum can be found here.
